Why Supporting Art in a Growing Arts District Matters—Especially When Public Funding Falls Short

Art districts don’t appear fully formed. They are built slowly, intentionally, and most often through the courage of small businesses, artists, and community members who believe in the long-term value of creativity—even when public investment is limited.

In cities where funding for the arts is scarce or delayed, support from the private sector and the community becomes not just helpful, but essential. Art is often viewed as an “extra,” when in reality it is a catalyst: for economic growth, cultural identity, tourism, and connection. A thriving arts district doesn’t just beautify a city—it activates it.

Art Creates Experiences, Not Just Aesthetics

When people support local art, they are investing in experiences. Art pop-ups, gallery shows, live music, culinary collaborations, and wine-forward events draw people out of their homes and into shared spaces. These experiences encourage people to linger, explore nearby businesses, dine locally, and return often.

That foot traffic translates into real economic impact. Artists sell work. Restaurants and bars stay busy. Musicians book gigs. Hospitality workers stay employed. Visitors discover neighborhoods they may never have otherwise explored. Supporting art fuels a cycle that benefits the entire community—not just creatives.

Why Arts Districts Need Community Support Early

In developing arts districts, momentum is everything. Without early buy-in, even the most promising creative corridors can stall. When a city hesitates to invest financially, grassroots support becomes the foundation that proves the value of the district.

Every ticket purchased, every piece of art sold, and every event attended sends a clear message: this matters. That message helps attract future investment, partnerships, and long-term sustainability. Communities that show up for their artists help shape the future of their city.

The Tasting Room on 9th: A Creative Hub in the Making

At The Tasting Room on 9th, creativity is at the core of everything we do. What began as a space centered around wine has naturally evolved into a hub for artistic expression—across music, visual art, culinary experiences, and thoughtful wine curation.

We are proud to announce upcoming art pop-ups in collaboration with Island Fox, alongside individual gallery-style shows dedicated to local artists. These exhibitions are designed to spotlight the incredible talent within our city, giving artists a platform to be seen, celebrated, and supported in a meaningful way.

And yes—it’s a ton of fun. Art openings paired with exceptional wine, live music, thoughtful food, and a room full of curious, creative people make for nights that feel vibrant and alive.

Creativity Strengthens Community

When art thrives, community connection follows. People meet neighbors they’ve never spoken to. Artists collaborate across disciplines. Ideas spark. Conversations deepen. A sense of pride grows around the place we call home.

By supporting art in a developing district—especially when public funding is limited—we aren’t just filling a gap. We’re shaping a future that values creativity, connection, and shared experiences. The intention behind shared moments and connection started with our Tasting Menu Series and is now intertwined in everything we do.

The Tasting Room on 9th is honored to play a role in that future. We invite you to be part of it—by showing up, supporting local artists, and experiencing the joy that creativity brings to our city.

Because when we invest in art, we invest in everyone.
